Ever since Dan is miraculously made intelligent, he has been becoming
more and more self-confident. He even volunteers to help the Emperor
in solving the riddle put forth by a foreign prince. This helps him
to win the trust of the Emperor and he becomes the Emperor's advisor.
At first, he seems reluctant to serve the Emperor for fearing that
his fellow tribesmen will be antagonized by that and later he thinks
that being a high official in the court can bring honor to his tribe.
